Saints' Lambert seeks further success

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert insists his best form is yet to come after netting the only goal of the game from the penalty spot against Aston Villa.

After an unsuccessful start to the season, the Saints have improved and now lie 14th in the table having gone unbeaten in their last four league matches, with Lambert getting three goals and two assists in that time.

The 30-year-old said he is not yet satisfied with his haul of nine goals though, telling the Daily Mirror: “I kind of hoped I would be on more. I’m going to try to push on. (more…)

Adam Le Fondre is eager to prove he is more than just a “super sub” after inspiring Readingto a 3-2 victory over West Brom on Saturday.

The 26-year-old striker who made his name in the lower echelons of English football with Stockport County, Rochdale and Rotherham United, joined Reading in 2011.

And the Stockport-born striker wants to be given the chance to shine amidst speculation that manager Brian McDermott is eyeing up a move for a new striker.  (more…)

Adam Johnson believes Sunderland’s 3-0 home win over West Ham was his side’s best performance of the season.

Sebastian Larsson opened the scoring with a long-range effort before two quick breaks on the counterattack led to the second and third goals from Johnson himself and James McClean respectively.

“I think that was the best we’ve played this season.” the winger told the Daily Mirror. “We looked threatening and cut them open so many times – everything clicked for us. (more…)

Pardew eager to keep Coloccini at NewcastleNewcastle manager Alan Pardew is preparing to hold talks with Fabricio Coloccini after rumours surfaced last week suggesting the Argentina international is looking to leave St James’ Park.

The 30-year-old’s father stirred trouble on January 3 when he said: ”Fabricio wants to play for San Lorenzo and he is trying his best to find an elegant way to leave Newcastle.”

However the Newcastle captain’s agent quashed the idea of a move, describing talk of a transfer as “illusions and nothing more.” (more…)
