The Red Devils had led through Robin van Persie’s header but were pegged back by the American’s late strike, meaning their lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League has been cut to five points this weekend.

Sir Alex was furious with the performance of one of the referee’s assistants, Simon Beck, believing his side should have had a throw-in in the build-up to Dempsey’s goal and a penalty for a foul on Wayne Rooney in the second half.

Klopp saw the Netherlands international live in action during BVB’s Champions League encounters with Arsenal last season, and he was thoroughly impressed with the former Feyenoord star’s performance.

“Personally, when we played against Arsenal in London, I saw the best forward ever: Robin van Persie,” the Dortmund coach told Uefa.com.

“I didn’t know a player could play three positions during 90 minutes. It was a great experience – and we want to use that now.”

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has admitted that if he wants to have a future at the club he will have to be patient and bide his time for a chance.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side currently sit at the top of the Premier League table with 55 points from 22 games so far this season, seven ahead of local rivals and reigning champions Manchester City.
