Dunne set for Aston Villa return

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne is set to return to training this week having been out of action for the entirety of the season so far.

The 33-year-old has undergone three operations since August in order to fix groin and hip problems, and hasn’t played a competitive fixture since the Republic of Ireland’s final Euro 2012 game.

And Villans boss Paul Lambert is keen to get the former Manchester City stopper back into a team sorely lacking experience.

He told reporters “If you look when Richard did his shoulder, he only came back for a couple of games and then had the groin problem at the Euros.

“He’s not played much football for a year really. But the operation in America was successful and the main thing for everyone is to get him back fit.”

Blackburn left-back Martin Olsson has been linked with a move to the club, and Allardyce went on to outline the club’s plans for the transfer window. (more…)

Everton defender Seamus Coleman has stated his delight at winning his place in the side back after returning from injury.

The Republic of Ireland international had been a pivotal part of David Moyes’ starting XI prior to his injury against Reading in mid-November which saw him miss the busy festive period.

The Toffees emerged with nine points and three victories from their four games during the congested Christmas and New Year schedule, earning impressive wins away at both West Ham and Newcastle, and Coleman remains optimistic of the challenges ahead given their recent form. (more…)

The veteran goalkeeper has made a u-turn on his original decision to retire from international football but will not be selected for the upcoming friendly in February
